Wonderful 2011 Christmas House Season

As the Christmas House doors closed this week on another great year, we are excited to report that thanks to everyone’s help and donations, we provided 10,518 children from 3,630 Snohomish County families with over 60,000 gifts this Christmas. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to making the holiday season a happy time for these families! So many children benefit from all the donated time, money, gifts and talents of everyone involved.

Christmas House Seeks Storage Space

Christmas House is in need of donated storage space from January 1-December 1, 2012. Can you or someone you know donate 1,000+ square feet of secure, dry storage in the Everett, WA area? Adequate storage allows our buyers to take advantage of sales all year long, stretching our limited dollars to purchase more gifts. The result … more children receiving gifts each December! How You Can Help Christmas House

Do you or your group/organization want a fun charity opportunity? Hold a fundraiser or gift drive and donate proceeds/new gifts to Christmas House (see DONATE on sidebar). Provide a light lunch for 60 volunteers (send us an email). Or maybe volunteer your time helping with the many tasks of setting up and running the Christmas House “store.” (Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas). The online volunteer registering system is now active. If you’re age 16 or older, pick a date and join the fun! (see REGISTER on sidebar)

Judd & Black Donates to Christmas House

Judd & Black golf tournament participants enjoyed beautiful weather on Sunday, August 28 at Battle Creek Golf Course in Marysville. The tournament is held each year with proceeds benefitting local charities. This year Judd & Black presented an $8,500 check to Christmas House, a donation that will provide wonderful gifts for many children this coming holiday.

Evergreen Wings Hold Fundraiser Ride

Once again in May motorcycle riders participated in the annual “Blue Crew Fun Run.” The annual event was organized and sponsored by the Gold Wing Touring Association, Chapter C, “Evergreen Wings” as a fundraiser to benefit Christmas House. Lane Roehl, Chapter C Director, is shown below as he presents Rosemary Randall, Pam Sorenson and Tom Thetford, Christmas House Directors, with a $1,000 donation. Many club members also collect and donate gifts for the children, plus bring their wonderful bright smiles and holiday cheer with them while volunteering time when the Christmas House “store” is open to shoppers..

On behalf of the Christmas House Board of Directors, I would like to thank all of the contributors, volunteers and The Everett Boys and Girls Club for helping us make this year’s Christmas House a huge success.

Our army of volunteers (850) contributed more than 8,500 volunteer hours and helped serve 3,500 families and more than 10,000 children from every city in Snohomish County. It was a true joy to be able to help so many families in need.

If Christmas House had a volunteer of the year award, it probably would have gone to Mike Barsay of Belfair, who has volunteered at Christmas House for six years during his visits to his daughter and grandchildren in Everett. Barsay first learned about the nonprofit in 2005, when he needed to complete some community service hours. He started volunteering there and called the experience the greatest thing that had ever happened to him.

Christmas House allows low-income families to get free presents for their children. Christmas House runs for two and a half weeks. Barsay shows up at 5 each morning and greets the parents standing in line. Having spent 23 years fishing in Alaska, he said he is not bothered by the cold much.

Christmas House 2010

Thanks to the help of 850 volunteers, Christmas House 2010 was another successful year, providing gifts to over 10,000 children from 3,485 Snohomish County families. Parents chose six gifts for each of their children age infant through 18, plus one gift for the family. Thank you to everyone that helped make it a happy Christmas for all these families!
